I couldn't help myself! Here are a couple more pictures of the monster steel beam holding up the third floor above the open dining area.
This is the heaviest beam we have, weighing in at a little over 4800 lbs!
Five feet of snow over the past eight days is not helpful! It took two excavators and three tries-axel dump trucks two days to empty the foundation out! Please don't ask how much that cost!
After pulverizing the building into the basement its time to clean it out. Yes thats me (Kevin DesVeaux) the owner of the West Street Cafe. Behind me you will notice a new concrete wall to the right of the electrical panel. That part of the wall collapsed back in May the week we re-opened for the season. Unable to get equipment in there to do the work we had to have a crew hand dig it out for over to weeks and replace it.
Unfortunately after inspection the rest of the cinderblock foundation (almost 175') was deemed unsafe and in need of replacement as well. The cost to do so was twice the value of the old crumbling building. So here we are...re-building!
